Pendower Beach

Pendower Beach

Pendower Beach is tucked away in the heart of the Roseland. It lovely sandy, south facing beach which joins up with Carne Beach at low tide and opens out into a glorious stretch of sand, over a mile across Gerrans Bay. One side of the beach is much sandier than other, while the west end of the beach is quite rocky with many good rock pools, and there is also a stream running across the beach. This makes it a perfect foraging spot for variety. Both Pendower and Carne beaches are owned by the National Trust, and backing the beach there are low soft cliffs and rock pools which have been designated Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI's). It is apparently one of the best areas in Cornwall for fossil hunting too.

For part of the foraging lesson we will follow the ancient path through the woods behind the beach which follows the river. This path eventually leads to 16th Century Melinsey Mill, if you wanted to explore further at a later time.

Dogs are allowed on the beach, but must be kept on the lead between May and September.

Parking & Facilities

The car park at Pendower is free for National trust members. A small charge for non members.
There are public toilets in the car park.

Directions

Travel on the A3078 south, turning off at signs for Veryan village. Go through the village and then follow signs for Carne and Pendower.

Follow directions toward Carne Beach until you reach the triangle junction (pictured), then turn right following the signpost to Pendower Beach.

Use Sat Nav: TR2 5PF to Carne Beach, not the official postcode for Pendower Beach as it takes you to a dead end on the other side of the river.
